Materials And Installation Of The Trunk Mat

1. Overview of trunk mat materials

In general, the trunk mat is made of tough thermoplastic (a plastic polymer material), which is flexible and durable. The flexibility of the material can ensure the vehicle can maintain good condition even in an extremely hot and cold environment, and the durability of the material guarantees the service life of the trunk mat.

To be specific, trunk mat materials can be divided into the following types:

(1) Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE): This is a plastic-rubber mixture that combines the advantages of rubber and plastic. It has maximum flexibility and the ability to maintain the shape of the plastic and be easy to clean.

(2) Thermoplastic olefin (TPO): This type of thermoplastic usually also contains rubber/elastomers and fillers. TPO is tough even under UV radiation, so it is an ideal choice for the trunk mat.

(3) Polypropylene (PP): This tough plastic is particularly easy to clean. However, it becomes slippery when wet. It is also easier to fade than TPE and TPO.

(4) Polyethylene (PE): This is the most common form of plastic, which is very tough and cost-effective.

(5) Thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) is also known as polyolefin alloy thermoplastic elastomer. TPV has good elasticity and compression deformation resistance. The environmental resistance and aging resistance are equivalent to EPDM rubber. It has a wide range of temperature, softness and hardness applications. And it is easy to dye. It can be processed by injection, extrusion and other thermoplastic processing methods, which are efficient, simple and easy to implement. There is no need for additional equipment. Also, it has high fluidity and a small shrinkage rate. It is environmentally friendly and recyclable, and there is no significant drop in performance after repeated use six times. In addition, it meets EU environmental requirements.

2. Trunk mat installation

(1) Remove all other floor mats or floor underlays.

(2) Remove the stickers (e.g. safety stickers) on the trunk mat.

(3) Clean up dirt or debris by using a heavy-duty vacuum cleaner.

(4) Determine the location of the trunk mat.

(5) Connect the trunk mat to the fixed hook installed by the factory or use the hook that comes with the trunk mat.

(6) Check the placement of the trunk mat to ensure that it will not interfere with the use of other parts of the car.

Note: Wet cargo areas may cause the trunk mat to become moldy. Therefore, it is important to make sure that the car is dry before installing it.
